About the Foundation
Quietly building a place worth coming back to.
A Kansas not-for-profit corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable, educational, and recreational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Our Story
Land first. Programs follow.
The Colbert Camp Foundation, Inc. was incorporated in Kansas on December 29, 2025 to put a tract of Linwood, Kansas land into permanent charitable hands. The vision is straightforward: own the ground, take care of it, and make it available to the youth groups that need a real outdoor classroom.
We are organized exclusively for charitable, educational, and recreational purposes — including owning, maintaining, and stewarding land for outdoor education and youth programs; supporting leadership, conservation, citizenship, and character development among youth, with a primary focus on Scouting America and similar youth-serving organizations; providing facilities for camping, outdoor activities, and community service; and promoting responsible land use, conservation, and environmental stewardship.

Mission
Why a foundation, and why now.
A camp run as a personal hobby ends when the owner ends. A camp held by a 501(c)(3) foundation, with a board, a conflict-of-interest policy, and a plan for the long term, can outlast any one of us.
Putting the property under the Foundation lets us accept tax-deductible contributions, pursue grants, partner with chartered Scouting units, and keep the land devoted to its purpose long after today.
What the Camp Supports
The kinds of things that happen on the property.
- Troop and patrol campouts
- Outdoor cooking and Dutch-oven instruction
- Pioneering, lashings, and rope skills
- Tomahawk and primitive-skills practice
- Conservation and trail-maintenance service
- Leadership and citizenship weekends
- Wide-game, orienteering, and field events
- Seasonal community gatherings
Governance
Run like a foundation should be.
Board Oversight
The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors that meets and acts under written bylaws adopted in 2026.
Conflict-of-Interest Policy
Directors and officers complete annual disclosures and recuse from interested transactions, consistent with IRS Form 1023 best practices.
Financial Discipline
Books are kept on a recognized accounting basis, and the Board may commission an audit, review, or compilation at any time.
